A Book a Day? What's Up With That?

Hi, and welcome to this year-long project. So what's this all about and how did it happen, you might ask. In mid 2007, artist Noah Scalin decided to make a skull out of anything he could find, every day for a year. It stretched him in ways he never imagined, as an artist, a writer and a person. His experience turned into a blog that went viral, and then a book.

Others have picked up on the idea: 365 Hearts, 365 Masks, 365 Bears drawn on a cellphone, 365 paper napkin mustaches.
I wanted to play, too, and I chose books. I love books, I know a bit about making books (thanks to my talented book-maker sister, Marilyn Worrix), and they're broad enough in definition to give me a lot of creative leeway.

The whole point is not really the books. The idea is to stretch myself in many ways as an artist and a person, to set up a discipline, stick with it and see what that teaches me.

I hope you'll join with me and follow along on the journey chronicled here, and let me know what you think.

Merry Christmas

I am sitting in Starbucks in Kingman, Arizona, communicating with you all o pn my brand new Kindle, a Christmas present (and not liking it much at all). I want a real keyboard!!! How does anybody type on these things??

Anyway, the reason I'm doing this is because my Pc has been in the computer ICU since last week. I am told "maybe today." Also my laptop had a dead modem so I couldn't even go sit outside our tiny library after closing and leach off their wi-fi.

So that is why I have not posted anything for several days. But I do have more than a dozen books
finished and ready to post. As soon as I have my trusty Pc back or a new modem for the laptop, whicheber comes first, I will start posting again.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah/Hap Holidays and I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

And I apologize for any typos in this post. I REALLY hate typing with my thumbs!

  1. A kindle for a book lover?! Your tale justifies why I prefer my Mac...no troubles, Had to replace the last one after 8 years as it went obsolete and still works off line. The one I have now for 4 years is a mini mac so it can be easily upgraded with minimal cost. I like watching Hulu on the computer now insread of watching tv. And I worked for IBM for 10 yrs....lol,,,

  2. I can't use my thumbs on my cell phone, either! I have to use my index finger.
I hope you get your PC fixed and that you have a super duper Christmas. Maybe you'll get used to your kindle. ;)

  3. Hi Donna...I'm the follower who walked into your store a couple of weeks ago! Just wanted to thank you again for showing me your work space and the books we have been seeing on your blog. We spent about an hour with Sharon...what a fun experience that was! Your town is fabulous and I can't wait to drive through again some day. You were very gracious and I only wish I could have bothered you longer and gotten some book making hints from you. Thank you again!

  4. Well, I guess I'my starting to get used to it...a little. I'm with Rita. I use my index fingers andback up and correct typos... a LOT.

Cheryl, it was such a pleasure meeting you when you stopped by Chloride recently. It's lovely to be able to put a face and voice to a follower. If any of you find yourselves in. NW Arizona, please stop in and say hi.

Still on the kindle and it is SO FRUSTRATING. I wonderif a stylus would work and be better. BUT... I just picked up the Pc. Just need to plug everything into the right holes and I'm good to go. Books coming.
